Why choose AK70-10 KV100
Key Features of the AK70-10 KV100

CubeMars' AK70-10 Powering the Future of Agile Robotics

CubeMars / Oct 29,2024

At CubeMars, we are excited to be part of cutting-edge innovation in robotics!

Last year, our AK70-10 KV100 robotic actuator were integral to the success of Nathan Weiss's groundbreaking bipedal robot project at Stellenbosch University, South Africa.

His thesis, Design of a Series Articulated Bipedal Robot Capable of Agile and Transient Maneuvers, aimed to develop a highly dynamic robot capable of executing complex movements such as jumping, running, and hopping across various terrains.

Why choose AK70-10 KV100

In this project, the CubeMars AK70-10 actuator was chosen for its:

vHigh torque density: Critical for handling the demanding dynamic motions of the robot, the AK70-10 KV100 provides superior mass-specific torque, ensuring precise control and smooth actuation during high-impact maneuvers.

  • Quasi Direct Drive (QDD) architecture: Our motors' low reduction ratio and high backdrivability allowed for enhanced force transparency and dynamic feedback control—essential for the robot to maintain agility while navigating challenging environments.

  • Built-in control and feedback systems: Featuring integrated controllers and absolute encoders, the AK70-10 modules enabled real-time force sensing, contributing to the robot's ability to seamlessly adjust to different terrains.

Through this collaboration, the AK70-10 KV100 powered the robot to achieve new heights—literally! The robot exceeded its simulated jumping height, showcasing the AK70-10’s exceptional performance and reliability in real-world applications.

Key Features of the AK70-10 KV100

  • Built-in planetary gear reduction.

  • Embedded controller utilising Field Oriented Control (FOC) and the CAN communication protocol.

  • Single loop absolute 12-Bit encoder.

  • High precision control with 0.1 ◦ accuracy.

  • Backlash of 0.2 ◦ (12 arcmin).

We are proud to see CubeMars’ technology driving forward innovation in robotics, enabling agile and compliant locomotion on real-world terrain.
