In the realm of overhead line maintenance in Australia, a pioneering robot developed by Crest Robotics is transforming work practices. Named Gorilla Mk1, this advanced robot brings unprecedented safety and efficiency to high-voltage line maintenance and inspections. At the heart of its power system are CubeMars' RI80 motors, delivering robust performance essential to this breakthrough technology.
All-Wheel Drive and Electric Wheel Design: Gorilla Mk1 is equipped with four independently driven electric wheels, each capable of securely clamping onto transmission lines. This design enables stable movement across high-altitude lines, adapting to slopes and uneven terrain. These wheels not only enhance traction but also provide stability, allowing the robot to safely operate on slopes of up to 30 degrees.
Weighing approximately 20 kg, the Gorilla Mk1 can tow loads up to 280 kg, moving at a speed of 20 meters per minute when fully loaded. It’s designed for long-range operations on various complex line environments, with a range of up to two kilometers to meet the daily maintenance needs of extended transmission lines.
The Gorilla Mk1 is equipped with a dynamic built-in control system that continuously monitors and adjusts the force applied to transmission lines. This intelligent control system ensures precise force application, avoiding unnecessary wear on lines or equipment, extending the life of both the robot's tires and line components.
The robot is equipped with multi-angle cameras, including forward, rear, and overhead views, allowing operators to clearly monitor the work environment and ensure accurate positioning. Its wireless remote control enables operators to control it from a safe distance, while real-time monitoring allows for precise adjustments and enhanced situational awareness.
Gorilla Mk1 can tow safety devices, such as isolation equipment and emergency rescue tools, and can even assist with high-altitude rescue tasks if needed. In case of an emergency, the robot can quickly transport rescue equipment to the designated location, strengthening on-site rescue capabilities.
Gorilla Mk1 was designed to reduce the risks and labor costs associated with transmission line maintenance. With its wireless remote control and powerful towing capabilities, it significantly reduces the need for personnel to perform tasks at dangerous heights and in remote areas, effectively lowering operational risks. Furthermore, its use in maintenance operations helps improve efficiency, enabling complex projects to be completed in less time, which translates to cost savings.
The Gorilla Mk1 is powered by four CubeMars RI80 motors. These motors offer high precision and high power performance, enabling the robot to operate stably and safely on transmission lines. The RI80 motors provide Gorilla Mk1 with the strong towing power and high load capacity needed to operate in complex environments, while also supporting the robot's precision control system to adjust the force on lines, maximizing both safety and efficiency.
